turning flips and cartwheels
in aldridge dexter field
she hasn't started wondering
how breasts and hips will feel
playing wonder woman
on the yard lines with the boys
if they don't want to play that game, who needs 'em
around the field, an eight foot old stone wall
lucy stands on top of it, a million meters tall
now she's launching off of it
to fall, fall, fall
looking up, she sees the boys are leaving
well bye, boys
my fly boys
in your armor-plated airplanes
you won't hear a sound
as i don't hit the ground
and i won't have to explain
my invisible plane
turning loops and cartwheels
across the august sky
perfectly invisible
against the blue and white
nobody ever notices
when little girls can fly
but once, when you were young
out of the corner of your eye
on such a summer day
you might have seen her
say bye, boys
my fly boys
in your armor-plated airplanes
you won't hear a sound
as i don't hit the ground
and i won't have to explain
my invisible plane
